Will the world end December 21, 2012?

Will the world end Dec. 21, 2012?

Multiple unrelated sources all point to major events occurring in 2012 which will greatly impact our planet and existence. Each microsecond brings us closer to the event horizon. We must analyze the situation and prepare ourselves for the eventualities!

The Mayan calander ends on December 21st, 2012; The same date as the Winter Solstice when Earth will be in galactic alignment with the black hole at the center of our galaxy. Timewave Zero drops off of the Singularity of Novelty scale on 12/21/2012. Solar events such as the solar maximum, sunspot activity, and solar pole reversals will happen in 2012. These are all calculated and verifiable facts.

Comets, meteors, and earthquakes are predicted. Super Volcanoes are theorized as a possible source of doom for 2012. Some believe that the biblical revelations will occur in 2012 as war in the middle-east ushers in the return of Christ.

The mass-media has already begun campaigns to raise the awareness of the world to the changes which will be occurring in 2012. In fact, anything you can think of is probably in the one of 750,000 or so websites, each claiming to be the authority.

One site claims it has a classified lottery project. You can sign up for a lottery ticket. If chosen, you will be able to go to a special shelter designed to save you for the next generation of earthlings. There is even a contest to see who will be the leader of the Earth after 2012!

Yes it is exciting and scary but I remember several times in my youth hearing backwoods preachers predict the exact day for the end of the earth. The date came and went and the preachers no doubt reported that God decided to merciful and spare us a while longer.

Remember Y2K and all the problems predicted? Remember how many bought supplies to survive the possible shut down of our modern way of life? Remember how uneventful that night was? Almost a disappointment, huh?

Well, the end will come SOME day either individually or collectively, either before, on or after December 21, 2012. I hope to be with loved ones on that evening and ready for whatever may happen. Que sera sera.

WTF does "galactic alignment" mean? Winter Solstice is when the Earth's axis of revolution is pointed away from the sun. (Or toward it, if you're using a Southern Hemisphere orientation.) It has nothing to do with the sun's revolution around the center of the galaxy.

Timewave Zero drops off of the Singularity of Novelty scale on 12/21/2012.

Again, what the heck are you talking about?

These are all calculated and verifiable facts.

Then show us the calculations, or at least cite some credible source where they can be found.

Good point. Try http://www.viewzone.com/endtime.html
for starters.

I'm not saying any of this is true. It's an ongoing debate. But it is rather interesting, don't you think?

It is interesting to see how ideas about the imminent end of the world are based on irrational, superstitious "dreams"! "The end of the world on 21 Dec, 2012" is a depressed reflection of those desperate people who do not believe that we can have a better world. Do we need to switch off our minds and wait for that gloomy day??!!

Hi Pepo,

Let's hope we are still communicating on Dec. 22, 2012!

Hi William,

Well there supposedly will be some physical manifestations though they may be so slight we may not even notice. Perhaps the scare is a ploy to sell books, movies and survival gear. Maybe Haliburton is behind this scheme too. In any case, our imminent demise is probably grossly exaggerated.

Okay....did the impending release of the movie "2012" later this year have anything to do with this blog? (grin)

Extremism: While the Mayan's calendar may have no bearing on reality whatsoever, I find the extremism of rejectionists as expressed here in posts, the likes of Gary and William, akin to subscribers to total faith or complete atheism, i.e., neither leaves any room for agnosticism (other possibilities somewhere in between). Rest assured, the either/or universe exists only in the minds of extremists adorning a tight fitting pair of blinders.

Thanks, Dada.

Brilliant point. Either extreme is...well, extreme. A blinding passion shuts out further consideration of its opposite.

The Mayans do not say that the world will end on December 21, 2012; their view is that world will experience a great change on or around that date. The end of their fourth long calendar coincided with the arrival of Cortes (a pretty significant change to their world), so expecting a change to our world of comparable significance is not unreasonable.

Thanks for your comment, Michael. Humans tend to grossly exaggerate, don't they.

For a whole different take on this 2012 thing, we'd suggest a look at MAYAN CALENDAR GIRLS
